AN ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY HOLIDAY
Thanks to our respect of the environment and the ethics of our managerial philosophy, the Hotel Dory has been awarded an Eco-hotel certificate by LEGAMBIENTE (an Italian environmental protection association). Respect for the environment and its natural resources is a choice we have successfully adopted for several years because we are convinced that just a little care and attention are all we need to protect the beauty and state of our territory. Our environmentally friendly choices include:
Producing less waste. We participate in differentiated waste collection and recycling programmes, we use returnable containers for drinks and non-polluting detergents, and we prefer packaging in glass or recyclable materials in order to reduce waste to a minimum.
Reducing water and energy consumption for heating water. For this reason, we have installed water supply accelerators for the showers, faucets and taps.
Saving energy. Wherever possible we try to use energy-saving lamps. We have also installed a new, energy-saving boiler and always ask our guests to reduce the linen they leave for washing, especially in the bathroom.
Using healthier food that is free of chemical substances (such as pesticides and fungicides). We favour the use of organically grown fruit and vegetables, or in any case fruit and vegetables grown with low impact on the environment, and we always know where it comes from. When in season (and when nature permits it) we are pleased to serve our guests cherries, plums, apricots and grapes grown on our farm in Vecciano. Also, every morning at breakfast we offer guests organic treats with lots of natural products, designed above all to guarantee our children’s health.
Promoting local traditions and specialities. We serve traditional local dishes, whose recipes have been handed down from our grandparents, and prepare them using local produce. What’s more, every week we organise a theme evening dedicated to Romagna, either at “Il Tulipano” restaurant or at our farm in the country, where we produce excellent wine and top quality balsamic vinegar.
Suggesting that guests leave their cars at home and travel by train. As an added incentive to this environmentally friendly solution, we offer a transfer service to Riccione train station and nearby Rimini, Forlì, Bologna and Ancona airports. At reception, guests will always find tickets for public transport. Of course, if guests prefer to come by car we have plenty of handy, car parking solutions.
Offering a Smart car for trips around Riccione, as well as a minibus with driver and 10 bikes. We also offer a car sharing service that means guests can hire cars at purely cost price.
Curbing and reducing noise levels by installing (where possible) soundproofed walls, doors and windows. We also always ask guests to try to keep noise levels down, in particular in the well being and relaxation areas and especially at night!
Promoting the wonderful inland areas that are packed with history, culture and traditions. We organise excursions, visits to holiday farms for oil, wine, cheese and salami tasting, and visits to some Malatesta villages and castles, not only by minibus but also by racing bike (we have about 15 Scott racing bikes and naturally, cycling guides). This year, we also offer walking excursions with our trekking guide, Pippo.
Raising awareness amongst our staff and guests of our philosophy. This is done in collaboration with all the other Eco-hotels in Riccione that have joined the project coordinated by Legambiente. We are also keen to learn the opinions of our guests, who are after all our best consultants, and kindly invite them to complete our questionnaire in order to highlight what they consider to be most important and allow us to successfully continue the road towards environmental protection.
